Etymology (term history)
The name of Hawaii can be traced from a legendary figure in Hawaiian mythology known as Hawaiiloa which literally means Long Hawaii. He is said to have been the one who had discovered the islands when they were first settled on. The State of Hawaii derives its name from the Big Island of Hawaii which is simply called "Hawaii". The word for Hawaii comes from a similar Proto-Polynesian word that means place of the gods or homeland "Hawaiki".

Hawaii Culture (culture of the hawaii residence)
Main page: Hawaii Culture
Hawaii culture is based on its location and developed originally from the Polynesian Voyagers and then from the Native Hawaiians who created many of the pre-contact traditions that exist. This culture had then been affected by post-contact of international trade and developing technology, social, economical, and globalizing effects, which led to the Hawaiian Kingdom and then eventually Statehood. It is reflected in its rich language, music, art, theater, dance, film, cuisine and festivals. It is also shown in local culture often referring to the "Aloha Spirit" in peoples mind, heart, and body in contemplation of their presence in the forces of life. The culture continues to grow, change, and fight to stay relevant with younger generations.
Separation of specialists in Hawaii studies was for the sake of identifying and uniting under practices that are seen as unique to the islands. This brought on definitions to divide hobby types There were also broad labels to create specific group labels to communicate specific types of interests or beliefs to attract more people to a target group. This was furthering the definition of: |
