Remembrance of the Queen
For many Hawaii Locals, the fourth of July means something other than independence from the: contract slavery, suppression, seized lands, plantation brutality, and a stolen nation. Americas hypocrisy of celebration of “Freedom” through intergenerational “Suppression” can be felt through the words spoken as the queen was imprisoned in Iolani Palace. As it can be heard from Queen Liliuokalani saying: "The feelings of one who has been imprisoned, politically or otherwise, can only be understood by a person who has passed through the ordeal” as a read by Hawaii’s story by Hawaii’s Queen. When July 4th is when the United States celebrates its independence from Great Britain, but Hawaii celebrates its subservience from the United States? It can get pretty complicated, so its good to check a bit to the books and see what happened. In Hawaii, July 4th, marks the Anniversary self-proclaimed group the “Republic of Hawai'i“ (ROH.1894-1898) who was not liked by the populace of Hawaiians and its immigrants had its agenda of seizing control, to Annex Hawaii to the United States, and Overthrow the Hawaiian Kingdom. The Republic of Hawaii were the successors of the rebranded and remarketed “Provisional Government” that was led from rich-business white settlers of invading commercialization of “The Big Five”. Dethroning the constitutional government was supported by: U.S. Navy (military), U.S. Ambassadors (foreign), and President Harrison Administration (32rd P.O.T.U.S.). As Democrat President Cleveland Administration (22nd & 24th P.O.T.U.S.) took office he sent investigator who concluded in the “Blount Report” that anti-royalist conspirators had done an act-of-war under exaggerated reporting of false made up reasoning. This was countered by the senate chairman and KKK grand dragon of Alabama with the “Morgan Report” that prolonged the annexation of Hawaii until pro-annexation Republican President McKinley (25th P.O.T.U.S.) passed the U.S. Congress “Newlands Resolution” (1898). Wealthy Westerner Businessmen had deeply resented former Hawaiian nationals using July 4th as a day of suppression through programs: Suppression of Voting rights, Hawaiian Nationalism and Royal-supporter suppression through the “National Guard” (later merging with the U.S. Army National Guard), Imprison Hawaiian Patriots, Hawaiian Language suppression (banning instruction in Hawaiian), and Hawaiian Culture suppression. As was done with colonization efforts at the time with: Black suppression, suppression of the Native American nations, and overseas National Regime changes for expansionist ideas that would further wealth inequality by resources hoarding and financial laundering. Soon, the U.S. congress rushed annexation of the self-proclaimed Republic of Hawaii (July 4th. 1894) to self-permit a Hawaiian Islands take over quickly through False-Annexation on July 4th (2018. U.N. Hawaiian Kingdom Occupation Acknowledgement) and created the Territory of Hawaii (1900) without an Annexation-Treaty. The US would have four places taken one after another and it was done within a matter of months and marked Hawaii’s history of the painful changes of “Colonialism” and painfully slow indigenous erasure by the acting government. This means the Republic of Hawaii’s successor is the Territory of Hawaii and the successor to that is the State of Hawaii that was based historically based on its lost freedom and the the loss of its independence rather than any that it gained. In the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement, July 4th is a shameful day of a painful historical reminder of the loss of sovereignty. The deception to the U.S. government and Hawaiian Kingdom sovereign state by coup disregards such desired patriotism. But embraces treason, compromises moral character of ones own worth that contradicts the values of Christianity as a base of moral exceptionalism. And elaborates on systematic demonstration of one's own lost humanity. What July 4th means to Hawaiians... Those with multigenerational trauma are commemorating respectfully the loss of their ancestors independence on July 4th. It is a day of intergenerational families gathering with the hibachi grill and not spark any notes of independence at all. Some Hawaiians will mark not celebrating as a way of protest, some may gather together for a feast of grieving in remembrance of the Hawaiian Kingdom, and some have their own way of celebrating July 4th. "Papa and I are going to stay with the Parkers… and I want to go away before the 4th of July festivities come off. I am sure you would be disgusted if you could see the way the town is decorated for the American troops. Honolulu is making a fool of itself, and I only hope we won’t be all ridiculed" -Princess Ka'iulani
