We go to an event where we are ready to go around and have fun with like minded people... and a funk is in the air that is impossible to ignore...a stink that is strong and horrible that all have experienced before at other events. That funky, disturbing, foul smell that is silent and deadly to the nose. The Otaku Funk is real! Some Otaku feel that, because they can’t smell themselves that they are not stink, well, think again! Just because the person is super stink and they can’t smell themselves, doesn't mean the rest of planet earth can’t smell them. They should do themselves a favor and the crowds a favor and just ask their sister or brother to smell them and tell them the truth.
Otaku, just like other people have to deal with hygiene with bathing, clean nails, clean teeth, and being well groomed. Hawaii in particular is very hot and humid, so people notice right away from the shiny slickness of gelled look to hair, smelliness that can be from ten feet of the person, and sweating from the high humidity. This effects peoples perspective, shows off how you treat your body, and makes others uncomfortable through icky stench. Otaku in particular have a great problem with getting away from the screen or cosplay builds to go to the bathroom and showering or going for self grooming. This even happens in the otaku community during events, specifically at anime conventions or the famously stench filled video gaming rooms where otaku typically go to early in the day and neglect to tend to their personal hygiene beforehand. Unfortunately, this issue has become so common that a rule has been implemented at anime conventions and similar events geared towards otaku that attendees maintain good personal hygiene, by taking a shower regularly, for instance. This rule is strictly enforced at these events, and violations of this rule can lead to warnings and termination from these events. This can also effect personal relationships and general health, personal hygiene is very important. For its points of reducing muscle tension when bathing, improve blood circulation when immersed with water, treats depression with stimulating the nerve system, and the little distraction of drops hitting the floor make for a relaxing feeling. Going out and taking care of your hygiene is easier said than done, however, especially if one is preoccupied with something, such as an interest, hobby, or job. Both genders agree that unknowingly someone who does not bath is someone who allows their lifestyle to overcome their life responsibility and can be judged as such. What is really great is that those who do take care of themselves can sometimes have boosted confidence, knowing that a lot of other people stink who are irresponsible can boost ones self esteem, some even think they are a babe or hunk magnet! its all in the bathing. Take sometime to look at a few girly or manly magazines or consult the web for what might be the best way of not ignoring hygiene and get it done with. Outside of these events, failing to keep one’s hygiene in check can lead to less interaction from other people, significantly decreased job offers, and increased possibility of contracting diseases and infections. Examples of hygienic practices include, but are not limited to, taking a shower, regular tooth brushing, and applying deodorant. If one has a difficult time sticking to a hygiene regimen, as with anything else, making a calendar or setting a reminder alarm may help in making a good habit of maintaining hygiene. Although learning to maintain personal hygiene may be difficult at first, one will notice an increase in the benefits attained from this simple but effective lifestyle change. So, what exactly does good hygiene improve for someone? well it helps one’s reputation for being clean and not stank, it allows one to be viewed as responsible and capable of taking care of themselves, especially if they are trying to go after someone. In addition, maintaining good hygiene improves other’s perceptions and willingness to become friends with the person who is actually bathing and trimming. People generally avoid smells that they are turned off from, and for the men out there it is good to note that women have especially sensitive noses to bad odor. Lastly, maintaining personal hygiene and a well-dressed appearance may help in one’s career prospects at work or in job interview situations, getting a boyfriend or girlfriend with a little effort, and make it easier to socialize with others not holding their nose.
